This event is part of Art 50 Weekender, a free festival showcasing some of the 50 artistic projects commissioned by Sky Arts, exploring what it means to be British today.
Drop in between 10am – 4pm, 16 – 23 February
Bring the whole family to Sage Gateshead this February half term and play your part in making a creative Window Wanderland display. Drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm between 16 and 23 February to get involved.
Created by artist Lucy Reeves Khan in 2015, Window Wanderland is a community-based illuminated arts trail where anyone can create their own window display, transforming the streets into a magical outdoor gallery for all to enjoy.
‘It is for people of any age, class or culture, is secular and always leaves a positive mark in many directions. It celebrates local diversity, brings pride to neighbourhoods as well as individuals, allowing new voices to be heard and seen, a picture paints 1000 words’.
As part of the Sky Arts Art 50, a festival which features artworks exploring what it means to be British, we’ll be transforming some of Sage Gateshead’s windows into an illuminated work of art created by you.
Facilitated by local community artist Ivelina Goverdovskaya, come and create your own individual artwork which will form a collaborative piece showcasing the diversity of our musical community.
Born and raised in the Ukraine Ivelina Goverdovskaya is an artist who is living and working in Newcastle & Gateshead, UK. Her practice incorporates ritualistic performance, sound and visual abstract art. She has been featured in MoMA exhibit in 2018.
Lucy Reeves Khan’s long career as designer ended abruptly after an accident left her disabled. During rehabilitative walks at night she noticed that the light from houses with curtains left open made her feel better. This led to ‘Window Wanderland’. It has grown internationally over 4 years and 47 events.
Storyvault Films Limited is recording at this venue for a programme provisionally entitled “Art 50: This is Britain” for Sky Arts and it is possible you may appear in shot. By attending this event you consent to filming and sound recording which may include you and its use in commercial distribution without payment or copyright.
